Shrine - closes Sunday

hey friends!

kate gavriel and i have created a site-specific installation in a midtown storefront, called Shrine. The project transforms a defunct retail space into a glittering storefront shrine. conceptually it's an experiment in the unexpected use of space. formally, it's a distillation of thousands of years of visual tradition into an abstracted modern spin-off.

the public has been reacting very strangely. some visitors engage it spiritually, but most are confused. a few are annoyed because they don't understand what it is (kate and I don't offer much explanation). others are looking for something to buy.

the installation has been up for almost two weeks now. it's coming down on sunday night. the installation includes sound too (c/o kate gavriel and dana mathiessen).

Three days left to see it: Friday 9-6, Saturday 12-6, Sunday 12-6.

our statement about the project, the full schedule, and all the detailed info is online here: shrinenyc.info
