So Camp Is Pretty Fun

Here in VT we have just started the second session of the program, which means yesterday I met and introduced myself to a hundred and twenty new kids after saying goodbye to the first session kids two days before. We have officially started the whole process all over again and it feels pretty strange, surreal, and completely deja-vu ie.

One of the great things that came out of session one was this 14 year old boy named Sam Brown. Sam had the voice of an 85 year old man, all scratchy and crackly and was a constant source of inspiration and entertainment. He said some of the zanier things ever and became really close to all of the apprentice teachers, especially the filmmakers.

Okay so all of this is going somewhere.

One day he walked up to me and asked if he could have my "unbiased opinion" about which "would win in a competition. A dragon/kangaroo/zebra or a dragon/killer whale/great white shark." We then had a fifteen minute conversation about what the best animal ever invented would be, meshed the two together and added several other body parts to form the best animal ever. We also decided that the best animal would also drive a monster truck/helicopter/boat and wield a gigantic slingshot that could be used to shoot atom bombs.

I then drew it.




It consists of dragon wings/zebra body/orangutan arms/panda hands/dinosaur flail tail/kangaroo feet/rhino hooves/eagle wings/box turtle shell/great white shark fin and teeth/bat ears/ram horns/killer whale head/snake tongue(poison in the shark teeth)/narwhal horn/owl neck.

It holds its slingshot.

I really want to make a collage of it as well.

More serious posts to follow. But I thought you might all want to know some of what I was doing in VT.
