"There is something occulted inside us: our deaths. But something else is hidden there, lying in wait for us within each of our cells: the forgetting of death. In our cells our immortality lies in wait for us. It's common to speak of the struggle of life against death, but there is an inverse peril. And we must struggle against the possibility that we will not die."
"he suspected that somewhere, somehow, this new technology was stupid or lazy. some young engineer had taken a shortcut and failed to anticipate the consequences that he was suffering now. but because he didn't understand the technology, he had no way to know the nature of the failure or to take steps to correct it."

Katie, I've had this exact same impulse to record found sounds and present them simply and fully. (Yesterday the sound of a pigeon hopping down courthouse steps, brushing it's tailfeathers on the previous step - sssSHwick, sssSHwick)
And something about it seems to be really connected to the momentary nature of it all, the chance that it might not have happened, did for a million small reasons and the weight of that chance becomes real with the recording somehow. Recognizing the existence of that aural beauty in some way creates it.
yes!!! i agree.
